Boundaries mark the limits of the possible, the spaces that keep people apart, the edges that can’t be crossed. Borders mark the maps of the world, the shapes of regions and cultures, the divides that can be challenged and bypassed. Ricepaper invites you to take us on a journey to explore boundaries and borders of all forms, whether the fluid and changing or the impermeable and permanent. Take us to the grey areas, the liminal spaces, and show us how you navigate the gaps and the in-betweens.
We are looking for short stories, creative non-fiction, poetry, drama excerpts, photo essays, interviews, and manga/comics with themes pertinent to this topic. We accept writing from authors of all cultural backgrounds, however, the focus of the issue concentrates on roots from across the Pacific, including East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian writers.
