explorASIAN 2019 Recognition Awards Gala is Vancouver Asian Heritage Month wrap up of the month long series of events and programming dedicated to embrace Pan-Asian communities and celebrate Asian Heritage Month in Metro Vancouver

We gratefully recognize the significant contributions that individuals, organizations, or educational institutions have done for the community diverse social and cultural landscape that is Canada. In the course of the evening, distinguished champions of the community and social advocacy will receive three explorASIAN 2019 Recognition Awards.

CBC Radio personalities, Margaret Gallagher and Alireza Ahmadian will return as hosts for this special event. The 10-course Chinese dinner presented by famous cuisine chefs will be offered by the Pink Pearl Restaurant, and the silent auction and raffle will have something for everyone

The evening’s program will include a live painting demonstration by the Leung siblings who will show their skills and different painting styles.

Through the evening, we will hear the mix of Asian sounds with rock, jazz and Pop music provided by The son of James. The Son of James delights audiences, locally and nationally, and the dances of Java, presented by Srikandi Indonesia led by Firda Wijaya. The Merak (peacock) dance delicate hand movements follow the traditional ‘Gamelan’ music.

In its 23 years of existence VAHMS has promoted Asian arts and culture to all Canadians to embrace and encourage integration and collaboration in the community. It has evolved to include the appreciation of local history of Asian Canadians living in Metro Vancouver to further facilitate dialogue about diversity, identity, and social advocacy. In light of the increasing size and strength of ethnic silos in Vancouver, VAHMS, as an umbrella organization with the mission of being a platform to showcase the different Pan-Asian communities and Asian- Canadian cultures through multi-lateral interactions that will allow us to live in a more equal and functional society produces and showcases events that are relevant to the community.

explorASIAN fundraising Gala event aims at raising funds for the creation of more opportunities for young scholars and artists to take a more active role in the development of new ideas to continue evolving with the challenges and needs of the times; at the same time, the recognition Gala event aims at facilitating more collaboration across and beyond Asian Canadian communities and raising funds to promote and to expand explorASIAN festival’s exposure in different social, cultural, and educational circles. “Embracing Pan-Asian communities” Recognition Gala event is a look into who we are now and where we will get in the short term future to celebrate Asian Heritage Month.
